Danish Refugee Council

Danish Refugee Council, founded in 1956, is Denmark's largest humanitarian NGO, protecting and advocating for refugees and displaced people across nearly 30 countries.

Founded in 1956, the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is Denmark's largest humanitarian NGO and an international organisation with specific expertise in forced displacement. It protects, advocates for, and works to build sustainable futures for refugees and displaced people, with operations in nearly 30 countries and around 6,000 employees supported by thousands of volunteers.

Its work spans the full arc of displacement: acute crisis, exile, settlement, integration and return. This includes protection and life-saving humanitarian assistance, programming that supports displaced people to become self-reliant and included in host societies, and durable solutions covering exile, settlement, integration and return. Alongside this, DRC engages with civil society and responsible authorities to promote rights and peaceful coexistence, and supports civil society capacity.

Within Denmark, the organisation runs volunteer-led integration activities across the country. Its stated values centre on safety, dignity and a better future for displaced people, and on working alongside affected communities rather than on their behalf.
