Wise, formerly TransferWise, is a financial technology company founded in 2011 that provides cross-border payments infrastructure and international banking services to individuals and businesses. The company transfers money using the real mid-market exchange rate, with no hidden fees in the exchange rate, and moves over £14 billion each month across more than 160 countries and over 40 currencies.

Its products span international money transfers, a multi-currency account that holds balances in more than 50 currencies, and a debit card for spending worldwide. The company operates across the fintech, cross-border payments, consumer banking, international banking and small-business banking sectors, and serves millions of people and businesses. Its technical work covers cross-border payments infrastructure, foreign exchange technology, multi-currency account systems and payments processing.

Wise was founded by two friends motivated by frustration with the fees charged by banks, and states a mission of tackling hidden fees that cost customers billions. It values transparency and fairness in pricing and has stated an ambition to replace international banking altogether with a system built for how people live and work across borders.
