A regional intergovernmental organization of the states of the Americas, founded in 1948, working on hemispheric dialogue, legal support, electoral cooperation, education and political cooperation.

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights is a regional intergovernmental organization of the independent states of the Americas, founded in 1948. It serves as a central forum for hemispheric dialogue and cooperation on political, legal, and social challenges, and works across the Western Hemisphere on questions of peace, justice, democracy and human rights.

Its activities span several areas of direct relevance to legal and public-policy practitioners. These include legal and institutional support provided to member states, political cooperation frameworks among sovereign states, electoral cooperation and observation - including electoral observation missions - and education programmes. Member states adopted its charter in Bogotá on April 30th 1948.

Work is conducted through shared frameworks, coordination of action and hemispheric dialogue, in a collaborative, consensus-based setting involving the member states of the Americas. Further information on the organisation and its programmes is available at https://oas.org/en/iachr.
