Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria
A worldwide partnership that raises and invests more than US$4 billion a year in country-led programmes against HIV, tuberculosis and malaria and in stronger health systems.
The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria is a worldwide partnership that raises and invests resources to defeat HIV, tuberculosis and malaria and to strengthen health systems. It mobilises funding from public and private donors and invests more than US$4 billion a year in interventions against the three diseases.
Its principal instrument is country-led grant financing: locally led programmes in more than 100 countries that prevent, diagnose and treat HIV, tuberculosis and malaria while building resilient health and community systems. Alongside financing, the Global Fund supports disease surveillance, laboratory networks, community health workers and access to essential health products. It reports that 72 million lives have been helped saved through these investments.
The organisation operates through a partnership model, working with governments, communities, civil society, the private sector and technical partners. Emphasis is placed on locally led programmes and country-led arrangements, combining financing with the expertise of local partners. Its technical work spans infectious disease prevention and treatment, health systems strengthening, disease surveillance, laboratory networks, community health systems and essential health products supply. Presence is global, with financed programmes in more than 100 countries.
