Fried Frank is an international law firm advising financial institutions, investment firms, corporations and other sophisticated clients on complex transactions and disputes. Its London practice includes restructuring work involving clients and businesses facing financial and corporate challenges.
The Role
Fried Frank is recruiting a Restructuring Associate at 2–3 PQE level to join its London office. The position is aimed at associates from the 2022 or 2023 qualification classes with relevant experience in restructuring or finance.
The successful Associate will work closely with private investment management firms, corporates and facility borrowers on UK and cross-border restructuring matters across a range of industry sectors. The role involves supporting clients through complex restructuring projects and helping develop and implement appropriate restructuring strategies.
The Restructuring Practice
The role provides exposure to both UK and cross-border restructurings, giving associates the opportunity to work on matters involving different jurisdictions and industries.
The client base includes private investment management firms, corporates and borrowers under financing facilities. Associates will therefore work on matters involving both the legal and financial aspects of restructuring transactions.
Key Responsibilities
The Restructuring Associate will assist with the management and execution of restructuring projects and work with clients and internal teams to develop and implement restructuring strategies.
Responsibilities include:
Assisting with the management and execution of restructuring projects.
Working with clients and internal teams on restructuring strategies.
Conducting financial analysis and modelling to support restructuring initiatives.
Preparing detailed reports and presentations for stakeholders.
Monitoring industry developments and regulatory changes affecting restructuring matters.
Supporting compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
Contributing to UK and cross-border restructuring matters across different industry sectors.
Client Work
The Associate will have exposure to a varied client base, including private investment management firms, corporates and facility borrowers.
The work can involve clients operating across different sectors and transactions involving multiple jurisdictions. This provides associates with experience of the legal, commercial and financial considerations that arise when businesses or financing arrangements are being restructured.
Candidate Profile
Fried Frank is seeking candidates with 2–3 years' post-qualification experience, specifically identifying the 2022–2023 qualification classes. Relevant experience in restructuring or finance is required.
Candidates should have:
2–3 PQE, with the 2022 or 2023 qualification class specifically targeted.
Relevant restructuring or finance experience.
Knowledge of UK restructuring processes.
Exposure to cross-border restructuring work.
Strong analytical skills.
Financial analysis and modelling capabilities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
The ability to work effectively with clients and colleagues.
The ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
An understanding of the legal and regulatory issues affecting restructuring matters.
Skills and Experience
The role requires a combination of legal, financial and analytical skills. Associates will need to understand the commercial and financial circumstances surrounding a restructuring while contributing to the legal work required to implement the relevant strategy.
Financial modelling and analysis are specifically identified among the skills required for the position. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are also important because the role involves collaboration with clients and internal teams.
Why This Role
The position offers a 2–3 PQE lawyer the opportunity to develop restructuring experience while working on UK and cross-border matters for sophisticated investment firms, corporates and borrowers.
The breadth of the client base and industry sectors provides exposure to different restructuring situations, while the combination of legal, financial and strategic work allows associates to develop both their technical and commercial understanding of restructuring transactions.
