Fried Frank is an international law firm with a leading Real Estate practice advising clients on sophisticated transactions involving real estate investments, acquisitions, joint ventures and other complex structures. The London Real Estate practice operates as a dedicated group of corporate lawyers with access to the firm's wider international capabilities.
The Role
Fried Frank is seeking an experienced Corporate Real Estate Associate to join its growing Real Estate practice in London. The opportunity is aimed at senior-level candidates, with the firm indicating a preference for candidates with approximately five or more years' post-qualification experience.
The successful Associate will work closely with Partners on a wide range of high-value and sophisticated real estate transactions. The role sits at the intersection of corporate and real estate law and involves advising clients on complex investment structures, transactions and cross-border matters.
The position offers substantial exposure to major transactions and direct involvement in matters involving sophisticated global clients.
Key Responsibilities
The Corporate Real Estate Associate will work on a broad range of transactional matters, including:
Corporate Real Estate Joint Ventures and Structured Investments
Advising on joint ventures and structured investment arrangements involving real estate assets and real estate investment structures.
Acquisitions and Dispositions
Advising clients on the acquisition and disposal of real estate and interests in real estate-holding structures.
Capital Solutions
Working on capital solutions and other sophisticated transactions involving real estate investments.
M&A with Real Estate Components
Supporting complex M&A transactions where real estate forms a significant part of the transaction or underlying investment.
Cross-Border Transactions
Working on transactions involving multiple jurisdictions and coordinating legal issues arising across different markets.
Multi-Disciplinary Transactions
Working alongside lawyers in Real Estate, Tax, Finance and Private Equity to provide an integrated approach to complex transactions.
The Nature of the Work
The role is focused on corporate real estate transactions rather than conventional property work alone. Associates will be involved in transactions where real estate assets intersect with corporate structures, investment arrangements, financing and M&A.
This can include advising on the acquisition or disposal of real estate-holding entities, structuring joint ventures, developing investment structures and handling transactions involving multiple jurisdictions.
The role therefore suits a lawyer who combines strong real estate knowledge with transactional and corporate experience.
Client Exposure
The successful candidate will work closely with Partners and have significant exposure to clients and high-value transactions. The role involves working as part of deal teams on sophisticated matters and coordinating with lawyers across different practice areas.
The position also provides exposure to global clients and transactions at the intersection of corporate and real estate law.
Candidate Profile
Fried Frank is looking for candidates with a minimum of five years' post-qualification experience and strong transactional experience in real estate or related disciplines. The firm is particularly interested in candidates with experience gained at a top international law firm.
Candidates should have:
At least five years' post-qualification experience.
Strong transactional real estate experience.
Experience advising on sophisticated real estate transactions or related corporate matters.
Experience gained at a top international law firm or comparable practice.
Strong drafting and negotiation skills.
The ability to manage complex transactions and competing priorities.
Strong commercial and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and client-management abilities.
The ability to work effectively with Partners and lawyers across different practice areas.
An interest in complex corporate real estate transactions and cross-border work.
The vacancy indicates that Fried Frank is particularly interested in senior-level Real Estate Associate profiles, with candidates around the 2020 qualification class or earlier identified as a particular target.
Why This Role
The position provides an opportunity for an experienced Real Estate Associate to work on high-value and sophisticated transactions within Fried Frank's growing London Real Estate practice.
The combination of corporate, investment and real estate work means that the role can involve complex deal structures rather than straightforward property transactions. Associates will also work alongside lawyers in areas such as Tax, Finance and Private Equity, providing exposure to different aspects of major transactions.
