Court of Justice of the European Union

The CJEU is the EU's judicial institution, interpreting EU law and ensuring it is applied consistently across Member States through the Court of Justice and the General Court.

The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) is the judicial institution of the European Union. Its task is to ensure that EU law is respected by the Union's institutions and by the Member States, and that it is interpreted and applied consistently across the EU. The institution comprises two courts: the Court of Justice and the General Court.

Working at the CJEU sits at the intersection of law and public service. Its caseload spans the full body of EU law, and its judgments shape how Union law is understood in every Member State. The institution's public-facing work is substantial: case-law databases provide open access to the Court's decisions, while procedural information, press releases and legal research materials support practitioners and researchers.

Behind this sits a set of systems built for the handling of litigation at scale. e-Curia, an online application, allows representatives in cases to submit documents and receive notifications electronically. Legal information databases and online case-management and document-submission systems form the technical backbone of the Court's operations, reflecting a working environment where legal expertise and digital tooling are closely joined.

The CJEU operates across the European Union and belongs to the EU institutions, within the law and judiciary and public-sector verticals. Further information is available at curia.europa.eu.
