Synthomer plc is a specialty polymers business headquartered in London and listed on the London Stock Exchange, where its shares have traded since 1971. Founded in 1863 as Yule Catto & Co., the group employs approximately 3,900 people and operates more than 29 manufacturing sites across Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia. Its products - high-performance polymers and ingredients for coatings, construction, adhesives, and health and protection - reach end users worldwide.

Research and development is conducted at five innovation centres of excellence, located in the UK, Germany, China, Malaysia and Ohio, USA, where work is carried out in collaboration with customers to develop and tailor new products. Around 20% of sales volumes come from new and patent-protected products, reflecting a substantial portfolio of intellectual property alongside long-form customer and supply arrangements across multiple jurisdictions.

The company states that sustainability plays an increasing role in its product development. It has held the London Stock Exchange Green Economy Mark since 2021, and its 2030 decarbonisation targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), aligning them with the Paris Agreement.
