About Kings Chambers

Kings Chambers is a large multidisciplinary set with a strong reputation for advocacy, specialist legal knowledge and professional standards. Its practice covers areas including commercial litigation, clinical negligence and healthcare, planning, property litigation, personal injury, employment, insolvency, Court of Protection, public and administrative law, procurement, professional negligence, technology and construction, sport and private client work.

The Chambers has offices in Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham, providing pupils with the opportunity to develop their practice outside London while working on substantial and complex cases.

Pupillage Training

Pupillage at Kings Chambers is designed to provide practical training across Chambers' specialist areas and to prepare pupils for independent practice at the Bar.

Pupils work closely with experienced barristers and are exposed to both advocacy and advisory work. The training provides experience of legal research, drafting, conferences, hearings and other aspects of a barrister's practice.

Kings Chambers places significant emphasis on professional development and the quality of its advocacy. Pupils are supported by experienced members of Chambers and receive guidance throughout their pupillage as they develop the skills required for practice.

The Chambers currently has pupils working across its practice, including Amy Rees and Hannah Saad, demonstrating the continuing recruitment and development of junior barristers within Chambers.

Mini-Pupillage

Kings Chambers also operates a dedicated Mini Pupillage Programme. The programme is a two-day event giving selected mini pupils the opportunity to meet members of Chambers, hear presentations about specialist areas of practice and participate in advocacy and other exercises.

The programme also provides insight into the working life of barristers, the operation of Chambers and the Bar from the perspective of a senior judge.

The programme is open to students in the second year of a law degree, students in the third year of a non-law degree or above, graduates and, in particular, candidates who have already pursued another career. The mini-pupillage programme is not part of the formal pupillage selection process.

Kings Chambers also provides a £200 mini-pupillage award to successful applicants, with breakfast and lunch provided during the event. Accommodation may be arranged for applicants travelling from further afield, and exceptional travel costs may be reimbursed.

Application Process

Kings Chambers recruits pupils through its pupillage recruitment process. Candidates should review the Chambers' current Pupillage Applications, Pupillage Recruitment Criteria and Selection Process information before applying.

The current recruitment pages do not provide a confirmed closing date for the next pupillage intake in the accessible vacancy information. Candidates should therefore check the Chambers' website and the Pupillage Gateway for the applicable recruitment timetable before submitting an application.
