K&L Gates is seeking a Regional Practice Innovation Counsel to support its legal teams across Europe and the Middle East. The role focuses on putting innovation, technology and artificial intelligence into practical use within legal practice, helping lawyers improve workflows and deliver better client service.
The position is particularly suited to an experienced lawyer who understands both legal practice and emerging technology and enjoys turning ideas into solutions that can be used in real legal work.
Key Responsibilities
The Regional Practice Innovation Counsel will work directly with lawyers and practice groups to identify opportunities where AI and technology can improve legal workflows and client service.
The role will involve developing practical AI use cases, configuring and testing tools, and supporting their implementation across the business. The successful candidate will work with the firm's AI, technology, innovation and knowledge management teams on more complex solutions and bespoke developments.
The role will also involve using existing platforms including Microsoft Copilot, Legora, CoCounsel and Vincent AI to develop solutions for identified legal use cases. Where existing tools are not sufficient, the Counsel will work with the relevant technology and AI teams to develop alternative solutions.
An important part of the role will be testing AI solutions for accuracy, compliance, security and usability before they are introduced into legal workflows. The Counsel will also provide training and guidance to lawyers and business professionals and lead change-management activities to encourage effective adoption.
The position will also involve measuring the effectiveness of implemented solutions through KPIs and ROI analysis, documenting successful use cases and sharing lessons across practice groups.
What K&L Gates Is Looking For
Applicants must have a JD, LLB or equivalent law degree. Qualification as a lawyer in a European jurisdiction is strongly preferred.
The role requires at least 10 years' experience practising as a lawyer within a law firm, corporate legal department or professional services environment. Experience in AI, legal technology, knowledge management, practice innovation, legal operations, project management, change management, technical training, coding or software development is highly desirable.
Candidates should be able to understand legal workflows and translate them into practical technology-enabled processes, including AI use cases, prompts, agents, automations and implementation plans.
Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements surrounding AI, including professional responsibility, privacy, data protection, information governance and enterprise security, is also important.
The role requires strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, particularly the ability to build trust with partners and lawyers and explain technical concepts clearly. Experience managing projects across different jurisdictions, cultures and time zones is also valuable. Additional European language skills are advantageous.
Why Apply?
The Regional Practice Innovation Counsel role offers an opportunity for an experienced lawyer to work at the intersection of law, artificial intelligence and legal technology.
Rather than focusing solely on advising on technology, the role is centred on implementing practical solutions within legal teams, testing how they work in practice, training users and measuring their impact. It therefore offers an opportunity to play a direct role in how legal services are delivered and developed across an international law firm.
