Broadfield offers paid vacation schemes in its London, Reading and Southampton offices. The two-week programme gives students the opportunity to work alongside lawyers on live matters and gain an understanding of Broadfield's clients, culture and legal practice.

The Vacation Scheme

The Reading Vacation Scheme 2027 will take place over two weeks in June 2027.

The programme will begin with a comprehensive induction, followed by placements in two different practice areas. Participants will also take part in skills development workshops and networking opportunities.

Each participant will have a supervisor for each seat and will receive support from the wider team, a trainee buddy and the Early Talent team.

The vacation scheme is paid at the Living Wage applicable to the area in which the participant is working.

Work Experience

Participants will work alongside Broadfield lawyers on live matters and may be asked to:

  • Attend client meetings and take notes.

  • Complete legal research tasks.

  • Draft correspondence to clients.

  • Review documents relating to cases.

  • Work with lawyers on live legal matters.

  • Take part in skills development workshops.

  • Attend networking opportunities.

The scheme is designed to give participants practical experience of legal work rather than simply providing presentations or general work experience.

Practice Areas

Broadfield offers a range of practice areas for vacation scheme placements. These include:

  • Commercial Real Estate

  • Litigation

  • Energy

  • Restructuring and Insolvency

  • Private Real Estate

  • Private Wealth

  • Private Equity & Funds

  • Family

  • Planning, Infrastructure and Public Law

  • Corporate

  • Commercial

  • Employment

Broadfield will try to match each placement with the participant's preferred area where possible.

Eligibility

Candidates applying for the 2027 vacation scheme must have completed, or be due to complete before September 2027, one of the following:

  • LLB or equivalent law degree

  • GDL or PGDL

  • LPC or LLM

  • SQE1

  • SQE1 and SQE2

Strong academic performance at undergraduate and A-Level or equivalent is preferred, ideally at 2:1 level. Broadfield will consider mitigating circumstances and does not score applicants based on academic attainment.

Application Process

Applications for the June 2027 vacation schemes will open on 1 September 2026 and close on 10 January 2027.

The first stage is an online application form containing essay-style questions about the candidate's motivation for pursuing a career in law and working at Broadfield.

Candidates may use AI tools to assist with research, structuring or proofreading their applications. However, applications that rely too heavily on AI will not score well because the assessment focuses on genuine personal experiences and authentic reflections.

Successful applicants will be invited to complete a pre-recorded video interview. Vacation scheme offers will be made following the video interview stage.

From Vacation Scheme to Training Contract

The vacation scheme provides an opportunity to progress towards a Broadfield training contract.

Candidates who receive positive feedback during the vacation scheme will be invited to an in-person assessment centre at the end of June. Training contract offers will be made shortly afterwards.
